About us

The ALCACHPR is a Non-Govermental Organ-isation created on 7 August 2019 in Arusha Tanzania by a group of African legal counsel of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights (African Court) through the Arusha Declaration.
The ALCACHPR was later legally registered on
30 December 2020 in Arusha, Tanzania.

Our vision

The vision of the ALCACHPR is to ensure the effective legal representation of victims before the African judicial and quasi-judicial institutions.

Our mission

The mission of the ALCACHPR is to mobilize legal coun sel of the African Court to effectively protect and promote the rule of law, democracy, good governance, human rights and the fight against corruption on the continent.

Our Objtectives

Support the functions, effectiveness and independence of legal counsel practicing at the African Court

Promote and maintain high professional standards and ethics of legal counsel, related to their duties, responsi- bilities and obligations in accordance with the African Charter, the Protocol, the Rules of Procedure, the Code of Conduct for Counsel appearing before the Court, and all directives and regulations.

Facilitate legal counsel to nave the necessary support, assistance and information irom ine Registry and other units of the Aincan Court to enable them to provide effective legal representation

Assist in resolving issues affecting legal counsel and es- and consultation Ia te kegoty Represent me inieress and cortens of its members as well as the goals of the ALCACHPR before the various organs of the African Union

Promote and facilitate the effectiveness and competence of legal counsel in the areas of advocacy, procedure and substance of international human rights law and international criminal law, and the relevant information technology systems in use by the African Court.

Strengthen the capacity of legal counsel of the ALCACHPR through trainings and conferences. Conduct researches and publications in the field of human rights and humanitarian law as well as other branches of international law. Work towards the effectiveness of the African Court and African judicial and QuasHudicial nsituton

File cases before the African Court and other regional and sub-regional judicial and quasi-udicial institutions. Appear as Amicus Curiae before African judicial and quasi-judicial insti- tutions. To do any other activities similar with the above objectives as it may be practicable based on the mission and vision statement of the ALCACHPR.
